Colossus, Stephanie Lake Company , Chaillot - Théâtre national de la Danse
- Paris
- Performing arts
With nearly fifty dancers, Stephanie Lake, award winning dancer and choreographer explores the joy and tension of the collective experience. Colossus fills the stage with a living mass, moving in unison in wild individuality.
Colossus, as its title evokes, is an extraordinary feat: imagine fifty students from the Paris National Conservatory of Music and Dance (CNSMDP) giving shape to an XXL choreography by Stephanie Lake. The promise is beautiful; the result highly acclaimed in Australia at it’s premiere in 2018. Lake, accustomed to accolades, explores both the beauty and the ugliness of the collective. Impeccable unison, magnified individuality, the Colossus dance celebrates the many as well as the intimate. The reunited soloists will appear to re-embody the choir of our modern society, more contemporary than ancient. On the scale of the country and continent that is Australia, Colossus deploys unsuspected charms in a permanent gesture of seeking and searching. Stephanie Lake is not afraid of anything. Her dance thinks big. One leaves Colossus transported: there is genius in the air. It is the Lake effect.
