Paris celebrates NAIDOC Week
- News
National NAIDOC Week celebrations are held across Australia in the first week of July each year (Sunday to Sunday), to celebrate and recognise the history, culture and achievements of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
NAIDOC Week 2022 – was this year honoured in style by the Australian Embassy in Paris together with their partners and the Parisian community. The festivities proudly showcased First Nations cultures, histories and achievements while celebrating and recognising one of the oldest, continuous living cultures on earth.
Indigenous guests and representatives travelled to Paris, including family members of highly acclaimed artist Sally Gabori, soprano-songwriter Deborah Cheetham, Short Black Opera, and songwriter Nidala Barker, to convey the important messages of NAIDOC Week.
Australia’s new Prime Minister, Anthony Albanese’s visit to France also saw him inaugurate Sally Gabori’s eponymous exhibition at the Fondation Cartier pour l’art contemporain.
The national NAIDOC theme for 2022, Get Up! Stand Up! Show Up!, pays respect to a proud history of resistance and activism by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
