Virtual Conference : Australian Olympians in WWI
- Conference
- Sport
The Sir John Monash Centre is proud to present its first online conference. You will hear the stories of Australian Olympians and their defining qualities of courage and tenacity being put to the test during the First World War.
Two conferences, one in French and one in English, will be held on Monday 2 August 2021, coinciding with the Olympic Games in Tokyo.
- To follow the English conference with historian Peter Smith, tune in at 11am (French time)
- To follow the French conference with historian Sylvestre Bresson, tune in at 3pm (French time)
Both conferences will commence with a special address from a member of the Australian Embassy in France. The speakers will take you on a historical and educational journey through the lives of the Australian athletes who served during the First World War. Amongst many others, follow the footsteps of the ‘Golden boy of Australian swimming’, Cecil Healy, who paid the ultimate sacrifice during the battle of Mont Saint-Quentin in the Somme.
Each conference will be followed by a Question-and-Answer session with the speaker.
The conferences will be limited to 500 attendees each and are free of charge. If you are interested in attending one, or both conferences, please contact the Sir John Monash Centre at: info@sjmc.gov.au
