In the heart of one of the most vibrant districts of Paris, the BHV-Marais department store will present a chromatic journey through Australia in February 2022 as part of the Australia now France programme.
From turquoise waters to red sand desert to deep green primary rainforests, Australia’s vastness and diversity make it a land of contrasts.
Australian nature and landscapes are unique and the wattle, a native flower found throughout the island-continent, which is also its national emblem, is an excellent representation of this.
Tourism Australia videos, featured in the store’s display windows, transport the public to the heart of Australia’s most breathtaking landscapes.
In addition, Leila Jeffreys’ artwork Nature Is Not A Place To Visit. It Is Home, a poetic tribute to Australian birds, shows visitors the diversity of their plumage on a giant screen and offers an immersive experience in the nature of the island-continent.
For a month, Australia will be at the heart of the prestigious department store, allowing visitors to travel to the antipodes and to discover the way of life of another hemisphere and the colours that characterise it.
The pop-up café Fitzroy, on the ground floor of the BHV-Marais, invites the public to take a break on Australian time and to discover Melbourne and Sydney’s iconic coffee culture.
Australian creativity, design and fashion are also in the spotlight through a selection of key brands and young designers, with an exclusive tote bag designed for the occasion by Australian designer Martin Grant.
In the observatory and in parallel to the presentation of the Piinpi: Contemporary Aboriginal Fashion exhibition at the Australian Embassy, a selection of objects from the latter will allow the French public to discover the dynamism of today’s Australian Indigenous designers.
Throughout the month of February, a program of workshops and meetings will accompany the operation and present the gastronomy, literature, and culture of Australia.
